We Have a Break Through!

In just 4 days, two of the eggs have gone from the tiny egg attached by a small amount of glue secreted by the butterfly to an itsy bitsy teeny weenie little caterpillar.  The eggs have tiny funnel-shaped openings at one end, called micropyles, and raised areas called ridges. The dark head of the developing caterpillar can be seen near the top of the egg on the second picture just before it is time to emerge.

 Day 1
 Day 3

Day 4

I'm reposting the movie of the caterpillar breaking out of the egg shell again if you missed it.  It is so amazing and may mean more after realizing how quickly the egg develops. Take a look again!  Keep in the mind the size of the caterpillar is about 2mm or under one sixteenth of an inch long.
Miraculous Mother Nature!
